This document will detail two scenarios that could prevent your system from checking for updates. If any of these steps are beyond your technical capability, please consult your IT support person.

You must be on build 340 or higher

Check this by clicking 'Help' then 'About Synergy' in your Synergy program. Within the details listed will be the build number, in the 'System Information' section.

If you are not running build 340 or higher – please contact Synergy on 0800 333 500 to confirm you are entitled to the required update, and if so they can help install the required update(s).

Once your system is on build 340 or higher

You may still receive the following message when checking for updates

This is usually caused by one of the three scenarios below;

  1. Your Windows SOAP tools (needed to run Synergy correctly) have been removed or overwritten by another program, for example anti-virus. This usually resolved be reinstalling the Foxpro Library Files

  2. Your Windows updates are not turned on or it is not set to update your security certificates

  3. You are running Windows XP, Microsoft no longer provide updates for XP, so the security certificates get outdated and our webserver doesn’t trust their connection.

1. Reinstall the Foxpro Library Files

The Foxpro Library files installer will install the SOAP tools required for installing Synergy updates. This is the most common cause of the “Unable to contact the Synergy Updates WebServer” error shown above.

  • Download the Foxpro Library files using the link below, run the downloaded file and follow onscreen prompts:

            http://www.synergy.net.nz/downloads/files/vfp9sp2.exe

  • Restart Synergy and check for updates

  • If you are still unable to contact the Synergy updates server, please try the second possibility, below.

2. Checking Windows updates are up to date and your security certificates are current.

To see if this is the issue, please click here (direct link: https://www.datasouth.co.nz/synergyproductkey/testpage.html).

You should see a webpage with the following message;

If you do not see this message or get a security certificate warning message, your security certificates may be out of date. You will likely need the assistance of an IT technician to resolve this.

You are likely to have this issue if you are running Windows XP, this operating system is no longer supported by Microsoft, so will likely not be entitled to the required security updates. If you are running Windows XP we recommend you upgrade your operating system (in many cases it can be easier, and more reliable to simply upgrade to a new PC).

Please note: these processes will need to be run on each computer that is running Synergy and unable to check for updates.
