Synergy has multiple name fields in the ‘edit client’ form and also some additional fields in the background data.
These fields are defined below, the name shown on the interface will be followed by the name of the field in the clients data table within brackets.
- Last / Company Name (cliname): This is the last name of a person or company name if a company. When it is a company you generally will then not add anything to the initials, firstname and title fields.
- Title (ctit): Client title, eg Mr, Mrs, Ms, Dr etc.
- Initials (cliinits): Clients initials
- First name (clifirstnm): Clients first name
- Mailname (mailname): This is the name printed at the top of mailings; invoices, statements, mail merge letters etc, by default the system will make this title + initials + last name.
- Attention (comptitle): on mail merge letters, this is the name used beside the word “Attention:” for example the client may be a business but you want to send letters to the attention of “John R”. By default the system copies the first name into this field.
- Letter greeting (knownas): by default this becomes first name, this is used in mail merge letters beside the words “Dear” eg. “Dear John”. In the background this field is called ‘knownas’ which tells us it serves the purpose of allowing other names (nicknames or another name the person may be otherwise ‘known as’).
- (Showname): this field is only presented in lists within the program, not on printed material – the user has no access to edit this field directly, it is created automatically when a client is created / edited, comprising of Lastname + Initials + (Firstname). The logic being that you will most commonly want to search by last name, so this is the first name presented in the lists within the program.
