How to set up older dot-matrix style pole displays in POS / PumpLink.

Minimum System Requirements

Customer pole displays are set up within Synergy as a ‘com port’ connected device. As such you must have an available com port or compatible com port emulator to enable Synergy to communicate with the device.

A 32-bit variant of Windows operating system is recommended if connecting a customer pole display; there are known compatibility issues with the Microsoft com component used by Synergy on 64 bit operating systems which may cause the application to crash.

Please see www.synergy.net.nz for minimum system requirements of the Synergy applications mentioned herein.

Note: If your operating system is unsuitable or you do not have a com port available – consider the POS Customer Display add-on from Synergy, which allows you to run a customer display application on a second monitor to show sale information, and promotions on a second, customer-facing monitor. Contact info@synergy.net.nz to find out more.

Setup

We recommend you have the pole display connected with the assistance of your IT services provider.

The following set up should be undertaken after you have connected the pole display to your computer, taking note of the ‘com port’ number that is assigned to the pole display you have connected.

  • Open the POSLink/PumpLink application
  • On the POS Main menu – click the ‘Setup’ button
  • In the POS Configure Lane set up screen, tick the ‘Do you have a customer display’ option
  • This will enable the ‘Customer Display’ button on the right – click this to open the customer display menu – select ‘Pole Display’
  • The ‘Choose Customer Display’ window above will only display if you have the ‘customer display addon’ otherwise it will skip to the following pole display set up screen:
  • Pole Display Brand: Select ‘Posiflex’ (as this is the only option available)
  • Com Port Number: Enter the number of the com port used for your pole display
  • Com Port Speed: Input the relevant com port speed value for the pole display’s com port connection
  • Enter Top Line Text: This is the default text displayed on the top line of text on the pole display when a transaction isn’t in progress – example “Welcome to XYZ Motors”
  • Enter Bottom Line Text: This is the default text displayed on the bottom line of text on the pole display when a transaction isn’t in progress – example “Have a Nice Day”
  • Click ‘Test’ to test the display of this text on your pole display
  • Click ‘Save’ to Save your changes or click ‘Exit’ to close without saving
  • You will now be returned to the main POS Setup screen, click the Green tick to save your changes:
  • Exit to Windows (closing POS completely) then re-open POS so your pole display is correctly initialised

You can now operate POS Sales and details of transactions in progress should display on the pole display as detailed are entered into the transaction
